Accepting Applications - Public Works Director

The City of San Antonio, FL is seeking a Director of Public Works. The director will work full time outdoors alongside field staff so must be physically capable of performing all job duties associated with the public works function.


Applicants will be considered on the following:

  • Two years’ supervisory experience

  • Three years’ working in municipal public works administration or similar agencies with potable water systems

  • Knowledge of potable water systems, equivalent to one year of on-the-job experience

  • Be at least 18 years of age, possess and maintain a valid Florida driver license

  • Background in truck, tractor, and backhoe operation

  • Strong familiarity with regulatory requirements common to the provision of public services

  • Ability to respond appropriately to public works emergencies

  • Have verifiable experience in maintaining public safety and functional city services, including water wells

  • Understand street, ditch, and culvert maintenance

  • Florida Rural Water Association Drinking Water Certification preferred

The director will perform, direct, plan and manage all maintenance of city infrastructure including parks, streets, and water lines. The director will supervise department employees, oversee professional consultants and outside vendors to coordinate activity, and ensure applicable regulatory requirements are met. They will handle complaints from the public directly and serve as the city’s expert on matters related to infrastructure. The director will provide support to the city clerk to ensure optimal operations, problem identification and resolution. They must establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officials, staff, and the public.


The director must be able to respond to after hours and weekend emergencies in a timely manner and be willing to work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
